Meet the Team

Jig Battu

  • After leaving school in 1980, Jig started his box manufacturing career working at Benson Box. Beginning as a packer, he was then moved onto being a machine mechanic. After a few years an opportunity for progression arose at, Jane Cox Box Co Ltd and this is where he met his future business partner, John Northern , who had previously worked at Benson Box.

    After working together for many years, Jig learned that John built up a great friendship both inside and outside of work.

    In 2001 Jig and John heard the owners of Benson Box had decided to sell their business. With a passion for the industry and the will to run a business of their own, together Jig and John approached their old boss and brought the business for themselves, creating what is now, Nubox Ltd.

    More than 20 years on, Jig is now the sole owner of Nubox Ltd, he still spends much of his time on the shop floor having invested heavily in new plant and equipment is constantly looking to ensure Nubox produce excellent quality products and look for new ways to be innovative to help the company grow stronger within the industry.

Alan Barlow

  • Having spent most of his working life in the rigid box making trade, Alan has seen the industry change dramatically.

    Starting at Nubox over 20 years ago, Alan started out as a guillotine operator and since then has worked his way up the ladder using his knowledge and experience, he now is the Production Manager. He is the primary point of contact for customers once they have placed an order. He has responsibility for material and production scheduling, managing and supporting production staff liaising with customers for technical and progress queries to ensure needs are met and ensuring products are delivered in line with deadlines agreed.

Ryan Thompson

  • Ryan started working at Nubox in 2017, following a Fine Art degree, as a paper mitrer in the factory as well as working on the handfed board cutting machine. After almost a year, he moved into the role of the paper guillotine operator, whilst also using his knowledge and experience of CAD design to help with the production of samples

    In 2019, Ryan then moved out of the factory to work in the office, becoming assistant production manager. A key part of this role is the initial sample production ensuring a clear understanding of the customer requirements from their brief at the sample stage, seeing it move through the factory into a bulk order and supporting the full process from start to completion.

John Shuter

  • John joined the company in 2017 having spent over 25 years in Senior Management positions from a variety of background including Engineering, Apprenticeship Training and Further Education. Joh has responsibility for the Finance and HR at Nubox and supports the rest of the team in managing the Quality Assurance and Health & Safety processes and requirements.

Lee Savage

  • Starting at Nubox in 2006, Lee was appointed as the board and cutting department supervisor, where he would ensure that all materials were ready for the machines production. this included hand scoring, sample making and operating the handfed die cutter. Lee quickly progressed to Warehouse Manager a position he still holds today, but still retains the responsibility for training and supporting new and current operators on both the board guillotine and the handfed die cutter. As Warehouse Manager Lee has responsibility for stock management of the board and finished goods, goods in and out and support for all operators in moving materials around the factory and warehouse.

    Lee then became a trainer for both the handfed and the board guillotine, teaching new employees how the machines operated and supervised their progression.

    After 9 months, Lee was made the warehouse manager where he would be in charge of loading/unloading vehicles and ordering/keeping stock of board, whilst still performing his role as a supervisor in the cutting department.

Ryan Battu

  • Beginning his career in box-making in 2012, Ryan started in the pre-production department. When first joining, he would ensure that all board materials were ready for the machines and that everything that was die cut, was stripped and ready to go.

    Following this, Ryan had the opportunity to learn one of Nubox’s new machines, their first Emecci. After a few years being a machine operator, he was then tasked with learning more about the pre-production side of the job. From learning how to die cut board on the handfed, to guillotining and mitring paper. Shortly after this, Ryan was one of the first employees to work on a CAD machine, producing samples more accurately and efficiently than before

    After about 8 years working and learning in the factory, Ryan was moved into the office where he now works as an estimator whilst still performing some duties in the factory. As an estimator, Ryan can use his knowledge from working in the factory when talking directly to customers and producing quotations
